    Interactions with Poland:

    Political activity:

On September 1968, one month after the Soviet Union led Warsaw Pact troops invaded Czechoslovakia, Zbigniew Darzynkiewicz on a short-term tourist visa left Poland to Sweden, declined to return and applied for visa to USA. Arrived in USA 1969. During the pre-Solidarity era in 70’s he attempted to support the anti-communism movement. Thus collaborating with Dr. Piotr Naimski in New York, helped him to publish and smuggle to Poland the underground anti-communist “Glos” literature.

During the “Solidarity” uprising time, together with Prof. Stefan Niewiarowski of the Temple University in Philadelphia he helped to establish the “Committee in Support of Solidarity” organization to support the Solidarity movement in Poland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committee_in_Support_of_Solidarity For this activity he was awarded in 1995 by the special recognition medal “Krzyz Oficerski Orderu Zaslugi Rzeczypospolitej Polski” by the past President of Poland, Lech Walesa:
